Zephyr

Il gruppo Kal from Italy su Ravelry ha scelto di eseguire, per il mese di Marzo, il pattern Argo di Svetlana Volkova per sperimentare il Contiguos Method. Questo nuovo sistema, ideato da Susie Myers (SusieM su Ravelry), permette di realizzare pullover, cardigan e quant’altro top down e senza cuciture, ma eseguendo gli aumenti in un modo alternativo rispetto ai classici raglan o set-in-sleeves.

The Ravelry group Kal from Italy has chosen to knit, for the month of March, Argo pattern by Svetlana Volkova to experiment the Contiguos Method. This new system, ideated by Susie Myers (SusieM on Ravelry), permits to knit a pullover, cardigan or whatever you want, top-down and seamlessly, increasing in an alternative way from  classic raglan or set-in-sleeves methods.

 

Sono stata subito colpita da questo nuovo tipo di costruzione e ho curiosato qua e là alla ricerca di un pattern che attirasse la mia attenzione e alla fine ho trovato Zephyr, un cardigan con scollo a V decorato da un delizioso motivo a coste a chiuso da due grandi alamari. E non potevo fare scelta migliore. Non solo ho avuto modo di provare il Contiguos Method, che ritengo eccezionale, ma ho anche imparato un nuovo e utilissimo modo per avviare le maglie, il Judy’s Magic Cast on. Per di più il pattern di Tori Gurbisz è scritto alla perfezione ed è super dettagliato, quindi non c’è stato verso di sbagliare un punto e il risultato che ho ottenuto mi piace tantissimo.

I’ve been hooked immediately by this new king of construction and I browsed here and there to find a captivating pattern and finally I found Zephyr, a V-neck cardigan decorated by a gorgeous rib buttonband and closed by two big toggles. And I couldn’t have made a better choice. I’ve not just tried the Contiguos Method, which I think is exceptional, but I even learnt a new and great useful way of casting on stitches, the Judy’s Magic Cast On. On top of that, Tori Gurbisz’s pattern is written to perfection and is super detailed so you can’t wrong a stitch and I love the result I got.

Come filato ho scelto la Malabrigo Worsted (100% Merino, 100 gr = 193 m) nel bellissimo colore Garnet: un caldo arancio arricchito da tocchi di rosa che lo rendono leggermente variegato. Unico. E’ la seconda volta che uso questo filato e sicuramente non l’ultima, lo trovo incredibilmente morbido e perfetto per la realizzazione di caldi ed avvolgenti capi per l’inverno.

The yarn I’ve chosen is Malabrigo Worsted (100% Merino, 100 g = 193 mt) in the wonderful color Garnet: a lovely variegated warm orange enriched by touches of pink. Unique. It’s the second time I use this yarn and for sure not the last one as I find it incredibly soft and perfect to knit warm and cuddly winter garments.

Castagna - Chestnut

Ormai siamo in autunno inoltrato e i suoi colori spuntano da ogni parte: nel bosco con le foglie colorate di giallo, rosso e marrone, in tavola con zucche e castagne, in casa con i primi fuochi accesi. E io mi sono lasciata contagiare, scegliendo per il mio nuovo cardigan un ruvidissimo (e puzzolentissimo) filato in una calda tonalità marrone.

Questa volta ho improvvisato, partendo dal collo, lavorato a punto pavone così come i bordi e la banda dei bottoni. Ho poi proseguito con i raglan e giù lungo il busto e le maniche, tutti a maglia rasata diritta. L’apertura è spostata leggermente verso sinistra a creare una piacevole asimmetria. Infine, per le asole ho sfruttato i buchini del motivo invece di crearne di nuovi e l’effetto leggermente arricciato che ne è venuto fuori mi piace parecchio. I bottoni sono il mio fiore all’occhiello: rivestiti con un sottilissimo cordoncino e della stessa sfumatura del filo.

Lo Chanzer Trachenwolle della Gründl (100 gr = 190 m, 100% lana, colore 123), è rustico, ideale per chi ama i maglioni in perfetto stile “montanaro”, un po’ meno adatto invece a chi soffre di prurito! Comunque sia mi è piaciuta molto la sua consistenza che mi ha permesso di avere un punto pavone davvero ben definito, da primo piano. Unica pecca, l’odore persistente di pecora che spero se ne vada con i prossimi lavaggi e con  tutti i profuma biancheria con i quali ho imbottito il cardigan!

It is now late autumn and its colors are everywhere: in the wood with the leaves colored in yellow, red and brown, on the table with pumpkins and chestnuts, at home with the first fireplaces burning. And I have been affected, choosing for my new cardigan a very rough (and smelly too) yarn in a warm brown shade.
This time I improvised, starting from the neck, worked in peacock stitch like the edges and the button band. I then continued with raglans and down along the torso and sleeves, all in stockinette stitch. The opening is slightly shifted to the left to create a pleasing asymmetry. Finally, for the button holes I used the holes in the motif instead of creating new ones and I really like the vaguely curled effect that came out. Buttons are my pride and joy: coated with a thin cord and in the very same shade of the yarn.

Chanzer Trachenwolle of Gründl (100 g = 190 m, 100% wool, color 123) is rustic, ideal for those who love sweaters in a perfect "mountaineer" style, but not for who suffers from itching! Anyway I really liked its consistency that has allowed me to have a peacock stitch very well defined. The only flaw, the lingering smell of sheep that I hope will go away with the next washings and with all the perfumes I used to fill the cardigan!

Cipria

Come ho già scritto, sono un po' fissata con i colori ed ecco qua l'ultimo lavoro portato a termine: il Leaf Motif Jacket di Melissa La Barre (Vogue Knitting, Fall 2009) ribattezzato “Cipria”.

Filato scelto, ovviamente non da me (odio questo punto di rosa), il Bravo Sport della Madil (100% pura lana vergine merino fine lavabile in lavatrice, 50 gr = 90 m, colore 411), lavorato con i ferri circolari da 5 mm, circa 12 gomitoli.

Il modello prevedeva l'uso di un filato molto più consistente così ho modificato il numero delle maglie e ho proseguito tenendo conto delle misure della signora che mi ha commissionato questo capo. Il cardigan è lavorato tutto a coste 1/1 con un motivo a foglia sul collo e sulle maniche (maniche che sarebbero state a ¾ ma che io ho fatto lunghe). E' un lavoro top-down e perciò è stato assai facile adattare le misure e creare così un capo che calza a pennello!

Peccato per il colore, perché il pattern è davvero carino e anche relativamente veloce da fare.

Like I've already said, I like colors and this is my last finished garment: Leaf Motif Jacket by Melissa La Barre, renamed “Cipria”, which means “powder”.

The chosen yarn, obviously not by me because I can't stand this tone of pink, is Bravo Sport by Madil (100% pure virgin merino, machine washable, 50 gm = 90 m, color n. 411), knitted with 5.5 mm circular needles, and about 12 balls.

The pattern requests the use of a bulky yarn so I modified the number of stitches and I followed the measurements of the lady who commissioned me to make this item. The cardigan is worked in rib 1/1 with a leaf motif on the neck and at the end of the sleeves – which should be ¾ long, but I knitted them longer. It is a top-down pattern so it has been really easy to adapt the measurements and create a perfect fitting garment!
The cardigan is lovely and relatively fast to knit…it's just a pity about the color ;)
