E’ la prima volta che uso un filato della Brown Sheep Company e
siccome mi è piaciuto molto, ho deciso di parlarvene.
It’s the first time I
use a yarn produced by the Brown Sheep Company and as I really like it, I
decided to talk about it.
La Brown Sheep Company è una ditta di filati americana a conduzione
familiare, situata nel Nebraska, su un terreno appartenente alla famiglia Brown
da ben oltre 100 anni. All’inizio su questo terreno venivano solo allevate pecore,
ma negli anni ’80 il signor Harlan Brown decise di darsi alla produzione di
filati e oggi, grazie alla collaborazione di sua figlia Peggy Jo e suo marito
Robert, la compagnia si è ingrandita e perfezionata, regalandoci prodotti di
ottima qualità.
The Brown Sheep
Company is a family owned yarn spinning mill, located in Nebraska, on a land
owned by the Browns since more than 100 years ago. At the beginning, on this
land, there was just a flock of sheep, but in the 80’ Mr Harlan Brown decided
to produce yarns and today, thank to the help of his daughter Peggy Jo and her
husband Robert, the company became bigger, giving us high quality products.
Uno di questi prodotti è il filato che mi ha colpito: il Cotton Fine,
un mix di cotone (80%) e lana merino (20%) perfetto per realizzare capi primaverili.
One of these products
is the yarn I’m using now: Cotton Fine, a mix of pima cotton (80%) and merino
wool (20%) perfect to knit spring garments.
Si tratta di un filato sottile, presentato in gomitoli da 50 gr per
203 m di lunghezza. Al tatto sembra rustico e non propriamente morbido, ma
permette la realizzazione di capi così leggeri e freschi che ne sono rimasta
affascinata. E’ una perfetta alternativa ai filati da calzini, spesso usati per
scialli e cardigan leggeri, ideale per climi più temperati. La sua consistenza
mi ricorda molto i filati per lavori a più colori, come la Holst Garn, la
Jemieson’s o la Kauni, ma in versione estiva, e vorrei acquistarlo nelle giuste
sfumature per il bellissimo scialle Aranami di Olga Jazzy. Il Cotton Fine è infatti
disponibile in 60 colori ed è facile trovare quello che cercate, come è
capitato a me che volevo qualcosa di arancio-corallo: il colore October Leaf.
It is a fingering
yarn, presented in 50 gr balls for 203 mt of length. It is quite rustic and not
very soft to the touch, but it permits to realize so weightless and fresh items
that I absolutely love it. It is a very good alternative to sock yarns often
used for shawls and light cardigans, ideal for more temperate climates. Its
consistency reminds me a lot the yarns used for multicolor projects, like Holst
Garn, Kauni or Jamieson’s, but in a summer version, and I’d like to buy it in
the right shades to knit the amazing Aranami shawl by Olga Jazzy. In fact
Cotton Fine is available in 60 different colors so it is very easy to find the
one that you’re looking for, like happened to me. I needed something in a coral
orange color and I found it: the shade October Leaf.
Come suggerisce la fascetta, i ferri da usare sono quelli da 3-3,5 mm
in modo da avere circa 24 maglie in 10 cm. Io ho usato quelli da 3 mm ottenendo
22 maglie, ma ultimamente la mia mano è assai rilassata, sicchè non lasciatevi
scoraggiare dalle mie indicazioni ed avviate le maglie!
Like you can read on
the label, you may need 3-3,5 mm needles to obtain 24 stitches in 10 cm. I used
3 mm ones and I got just 22 stitches, but lately my tension is very relaxed so
don’t be discouraged by my indications and cast on!
In fascetta sono riportate anche le istruzioni per il lavaggio e le ho
trovate veramente utili ed esaurienti come non mi è mai capitato di leggere: lavare
in acqua tiepida, preferibilmente usando dell’aceto in modo da evitare
scolorimenti indesiderati, poi tamponare con un asciugamano senza torcere e
strizzare ed infine asciugare in piano. E’ anche possibile il lavaggio a secco.
On the label you can
also find the washing instructions and I found them very useful and complete
like never before: wash in cool water, preferably using vinegar to avoid color
migration, roll gently in a towel without twisting or wringing and lay flat to dry. It is also
possible dry cleaning.
Che altro dire? Cotton Fine mi sembra un filato assai versatile e non
mi resta che consigliarvelo!

think that Cotton Fine is a very versatile yarn and I can just recommend it to you!
