Soay

Questo cardigan è nato per accompagnare il mio Butterick 5882, realizzato qualche settimana fa.
Ci ho messo un po' a trovare il filato e il modello adatti e alla fine ho optato per Eidos di The Sanguine Gryphon in Midir e per il pattern di Gudrun Johnston Soay.

Ho scattato le foto in fretta e furia solo poche ore prima di riprendere il volo per l'Australia e quindi non ho avuto tempo di provare abito e cardigan insieme, ma vi assicuro che sono fatti l'uno per l'altro!

Soay mi piace tantissimo, soprattutto la forma, e credo che ce ne sarà un altro a breve!

This cardigan was born to go with my Butterick 5882, sewn few weeks ago. It took me a while to find the right yarn and pattern but I finally choose Eidos in Midir by The Sanguine Gryphon and Soay by Gudrun Johnston.

I took the photos just few hours before leaving for Australia so I didn't had the time to try on the dress and the cardigan together, but they are look great together!

I love Soay and its shape and I think I'll knit another one pretty soon!

Oranje sneak peak!

Al momento ho diversi lavori sui ferri e sotto la macchina da cucire, ma voglio farvene vedere uno che mi piace particolarmente. È il mio Oranje in corso d'opera che sto realizzando con tre bellissimi colori della Cephalopod Yarns. Il colore principale è Peaks of Otter, gli altri due sono San Francisco Bay e Davy Jones' Locker. Non sono bellissimi?
Infine, con orgoglio, vi presento la mia prima treccia lettone. Mi ci sono volute almeno un paio d'ore per finirla. Due ore di massima concentrazione. Due ore super impegnative. Ma alla fine eccola qua e la adoro!

At the moment I've several projects on my knitting needles and under the needles of my sewing machine but I want to show you one I particularly love. It is my Oranje in progress, knitted with three amazing colors by Cephalopod Yarns. The main color is Peaks of Otter, the other two are San Francisco Bay and Davy Jones' Locker. Aren't they beautiful?
Lastly, with pride, I introduce you my very first latvian braid. It took me at least a couple of hours. Two hours of extreme concentration. Two very hard hours. But here it is and I love it!

Mini

Piccolo eh? Infatti, la domanda che sorge spontanea è: questo mini cardigan starà a un mini uomo di 3 mesi?! Mi auguro di si, altrimenti la mia amica dovrà aspettare il secondogenito per sfruttarlo!
Il modello è il carinissimo Little Coffee Bean Cardigan di Elizabeth Smith e il filato usato è il Cotton Blend della Panda, un gomitolo per colore.

Small uh? Now, the question is: is this mini cardigan going to fit a 3 months old mini man? I hope it will otherwise my friend has to wait her second child to use it!
The pattern is the cute Little Coffee Bean Cardigan by Elizabeth Smith and the yarn I used is Panda Cotton Blend, a ball of each color.

Neon

Appena Joji ha pubblicato il suo nuovo modello, Neon, ho deciso che lo avrei dovuto fare! Quindi mi sono munita dell'identico filato - The Plucky Kitter, Pucky Sweater in Hotsy Tosty - e ho messo mano ai ferri.
Il modello è un semplice top-down cardigan la cui parte iniziale è eseguita con il metodo Contiguos. Il tutto è arricchito da un delizioso quanto noioso punto ad effetto tulle. La cosa diventa ancora più tediosa una volta che, finito il corpo, si devono fare le maniche. Siccome queste sono eseguite in tondo, la configurazione del punto cambia e la lentezza di esecuzione aumenta tanto quanto basta per farti pensare di eliminare le maniche. Ma ho tenuto duro e fatto di testa mia. Invece di chiudere le maglie in tondo, ho aggiunto una maglia per ciascun lato e continuato avanti e indietro finché non ho finito il filo. Ha volta bloccato il capo ho cucito le maniche et voilá, vittoria!
Trovare i bottoni dello stesso colore del filato è stato impossibile e quindi ho optato per un tono più scuro e sono soddisfatta del risultato.
Neon mi piace, con il suo effetto vedo non vedo, e la definizione del punto data che si ottiene con il Plucky Sweater aggiunge sicuramente valore al prodotto, ma non credo che lo rifarei di nuovo, preferisco lavori meno ripetitivi. Detto questo, credo che lo indosserò parecchio, anche perché sembra che qui sia finalmente arrivato un vento fresco!

As soon as Joji published her last pattern, Neon, I knew I had to knit it! So I bought the same yarn - The Plucky Knitter, Plucky Sweater in Hotsy Totsy - and I casted on!
The pattern is a simple top-down cardigan and its yoke is knitted following the contiguous method. Everything is enhanced by a nice and at the same time boring tulle stitch. This becomes even more boring once finished the body, you have to knit the sleeves. As they are knitted in the round, the way the stitch pattern is worked changes and it becomes so slow that you wish to eliminate the sleeves. But I kept calm and done what I wanted. Instead of join in the round, I added a stitch at every side and continued back and forth, until I run out of yarn. Once the cardigan was dry, I sew the sleeve and voilá, victory is mine!
The last challenge has been finding the buttons of the same color of the yarn, which I lost, so I opted for a slightly darker shade and I like the result.
I like Neon very much, with its see-through effect, and the yarn gives a really good stitch definition, but I think I'm not going to knit it again any time soon, I prefer less repetitive projects. That said, I think I'm going to wear Neon a lot as it looks like a fresh wind finally got here!

Little Birds

Finalmente vi posso far vedere il mio Little Birds! Erano settimane che aspettavo il sole per poterlo bloccare e fotografare.
Ho drasticamente modificato il modello ed ecco qui come...
- Ho avviato 177 m con ferri da 3 mm per il corpo e dopo le coste sono passata a quelli da 3,5 mm, unendo in tondo il lavoro e avviando 7 m per lo steek.
- Subito dopo le coste ho aumentato una m, in modo da avere un totale di 178 (multiplo di 8 - ovvero il motivo - più 2 m per la parte centrale del dietro).
- Ho ridisegnato lo schema in modo che gli uccellini andassero in due direzioni opposte a partire dal davanti, per incontrarsi faccia a faccia sul dietro.
- Per lo scollo non ho seguito lo schema, ma ho diminuito le maglie solo a pochi giri dalla fine del davanti, in modo da avere un cardigan più coprente.
- Per la manica  ho avviato 48 m con ferri da 3 mm e dopo le coste sono passata a quelli da 3,5 mm.
- Per gli aumenti ho seguito lo schema per la taglia s/m e ho proseguito fino a 48 cm circa di lunghezza. Ho poi unito maniche e corpo, come da istruzioni.
- Per la banda dei bottoni ho preso spunto da un altro modello di Ysolda, Laika, lavorando il bordo a legaccio ed aggiungendo una seconda fila di bottoni, per un totale di 18.
- All'interno, ho rifinito lo steek a punto festone.

Finally I can show you my finished Little Birds! I've been waiting for weeks for the sun to come out to block and photography this cardigan.
I drastically modify the pattern and here it is how I did it...
- For the body I CO 177 sts with 3 mm needles and after the ribbing I switched to 3,5 mm, joined in the round and CO 7 sts for the steek.
- After the ribbing I increased 1 st to get a total of 178 (multiple of 8 - the pattern repeat - plus 2 sts for the centre back).
- I draw a new chart in order to let the birds go in opposite direction from the front towards the back so they face each other at the centre back.
- I didn't follow the pattern for the neckline, I instead knitted straight until close to the ind of the front, decreasing the stitches just in the last few rows in order to have a cardigan a little more closed.
- For sleeves I CO 48 sts with 3 mm needles and switched to 3,5 mm after the ribbing.
- For the increases I followed the chart for the s/m size lengthening the sleeves to about 48 cm. I then joined body and sleeves as per instructions.
- For the button band I was inspired by another Ysolda's cardigan, Laika, so I knit the border in garter stitch and I add a second row of buttons, for a total of 18.
- On the wrong side I finished the steek with a blanket stitch.

1, 2, 3...steek!

Ho finalmente finito Little Birds, sto solo aspettando il bel tempo per lavarlo e bloccarlo. Nel frattempo vi presento, passo passo, il mio steeking.
Prima di tutto si deve bloccare le maglie dello steek, in modo che non si disfino una volte tagliate. Io ho optato per due file di punti diritti eseguite con la macchina da cucire, assai più veloce e meno ingombrante del metodo con l'uncinetto. Ho poi tagliato lo steek con le forbici e infine ho ripreso le maglie per il bordo. Una volta bloccato il mio cardigan credo che applicherò un nastro di gros-grain sul rovescio, per rifinire lo steek completamente e renderlo così invisibile.
Speriamo che questi acquazzoni passino alla svelta!

I finally finished my Little Birds, now I'm just waiting for a sunny day to wash and block it. In the meantime may I present you, step by step, my steeking.
First of all I secured the stitches of the steek in order to prevent unraveling once cut it open. I chose two rows of straight stitches done with the sewing machine, cleaner and faster method than the crochet one. I then cut the steek open with the scissors and finally I picked the stitches up for the edging. Once I've blocked the cardigan, I'm going to sew a grosgrain ribbon on the wrong side of the steeking to nicely hide it.
Let's hope this weather changes soon!

Sneak Peek

Qualche giorno fa ho messo finalmente le mie mani su un paio di matasse bellissime: Traveller della Cephalopod Yarns nel colore Mauritius. Era da tempo che speravo rimettessero in vendita questo colore e appena l'ho visto online ne ho subito comprato un po'. Come avrete intuito al momento la mia vena creativa pulsa e batte per colori accessi, forti e che prima non avrei mai osato usare e quindi Mauritius fa proprio al caso mio! È un meraviglioso miscuglio di verde acido, giallo limone e verde mela che adoro. Per la mia prima volta con lui ho deciso di smorzarne l'effetto abbagliante abbinandolo a due grigi, uno scuro - Bethlehem Royal Hospital - ed uno chiaro - Arkham.
Il modello che ho scelto di realizzare é il dolcissimo Little Birds di Ysolda Teague, pubblicato su Twist Collective nell'inverno 2008. Ho però deciso di modificare un po' il cardigan visto che la forma non mi convince parecchio e ho pure messo mano al disegno, facendo andare gli uccellini in due direzioni diverse. Sono solo all'inizio, ma sono già super eccitata nel vederlo crescere, maglia dopo maglia.

Few days ago I finally put my hands on a couple of awesome skeins: Traveller by Cephalopod Yarns in Mauritius. For a long time I wished to see it on sale again and as soon as they put on line I bought it. As you may have understood, at the moment my creative vein throbs and beats for vivid and bright colors that I've never dared using before and Mauritius is just perfect! It is a blend of acid green, lemon and apple green that I love. For my first time with it I decided to dampen its glare pairing it with two grays, a darker - Bethlehem Royal Hospital - and a lighter one - Arkham.
The pattern I chose to knit is the sweet Little Birds by Ysolda Teague, published in Twist Collective winter 2008. However I decided to modify the cardigan a little as I wasn't convinced about its shape and I changed the motif as well in order to let the birds go in two different directions. I'm still at the beginning but I'm super excited about seeing it growing, stitch after stitch.

Glacier Sweep

Non che avessi bisogno di un altro scialle, tutt’altro, ma non potevo nemmeno lasciar lì gli avanzi del Traveller usato per Chickadee, giusto? E infatti per finire il mio Glacier Sweep ho dovuto usare ogni singolo metro di Bold Jumping Spider (variegato blu, verde pavone, viola e rosa) e Okunoshima (caldo rosa fucsia) che avevo.

Glacier Sweep è uno degli ultimi scialli di Stephen West e fa parte della collezione di modelli pubblicati settimanalmente in occasione del ChoreoKAL. Le istruzioni prevedono l’uso di un filato worsted, con la variante per fingering weight, ma io come al solito non ci ho fatto caso ed ho usato un DK, tanto gli scialli vengono sempre bene anche con tensioni totalmente diverse, no?!

Adoro questi due colori insieme e sono sempre più affascinata dai filati della Cephalopod Yarns: i loro colori sono davvero unici e le infinite possibilità di accostamento mi lasciano sempre a bocca aperta e con la voglia di sferruzzare di tutto e di più. Scoprire un altro marchio così mi ci voleva proprio: ora sì non se ne parla proprio di smettere di accatastare filati!

 

I didn’t really need another shawl, but I wouldn’t have dared to not use the Traveller’s leftovers from my Chickadee. And in fact to finish my Glacier Sweep I had to use every single meter of Bold Jumping Spider (the blue, teal, purple and pink yarn) and Okunoshima (the warm fuchsia) I had.

GlacierSweep is one of the latest shawls by Stephen West and it is a pattern from the collection published weekly in occasion of the ChoreoKAL. The instructions suggest the use of worsted weight yarn, with an alternative for fingering weight, but as usual I didn’t bother about that and I used a DK instead. Shawl always come out pretty even if with a totally different gauge, isn’t it?

I love these two colors together and I’m amazed by Cephalopod Yarns: their colors are unique and the infinite combinations leave me speechless and wishing to knit more and more. To find another brand so nice is what I needed most: now I won’t stop to pile up yarns!

Chickadee

Eccomi qua con il primo post del 2013 e il relativo primo cardigan dell’anno.

Il modello è Chickadee di Ysolda Teague, lavorato con il favoloso filato Traveller di Cephalopod Yarns.

E’ la mia prima volta con entrambi e sono sicura che non sarà l’ultima! Chickadee è un cardigan giovanile e colorato, che può però diventare più professionale se eseguito con filati dai toni più seriosi. E’ un capo molto versatile. Io ho puntato a una via di mezzo: un bellissimo e classico blu navy con punte di viola e verde abbinato a un acceso viola e un caldo fucsia. Adoro il risultato finale e sono certa che se mi trovassi nell’emisfero boreale, lo indosserei tutti i giorni tanto mi piace!

Era da un po’ che non mi dilettavo con il lavoro stranded e ora non ne posso fare a meno, infatti ho già ordinato altri colori per un nuovo cardigan…ma questa è un’altra storia!

Here I am writing the first 2013 post about the first cardigan of the year.

The pattern is Chickadee by Ysolda Teague knitted with the amazing yarn Traveller by Cephalopod Yarns.

It is my first time with both of them and I’m sure it will not the last one! Chickadee is a youthful and colorful cardigan that can become more professional-looking if knitted in more serious colors, in fact it is a very versatile garment. I’ve chosen something in the middle: a classic beautiful navy with shades of purple and teal matching a vivid purple and a warm fuchsia. I love it and I’m sure that if I was in the boreal hemisphere I’d wear it every day!

The last stranded garment I knitted was a while ago, but now I can’t live without so I already ordered more colors for a new cardigan…but this is another story!

Dragonflies

Ci siamo: ultimo post del 2012 che ha per protagonista l’ultimocardigan che ho finito quest’anno!

Here weare: last post of 2012 about the last cardigan of the year!

Come avrete intuito si tratta del favoloso Dragonflies Jumper diJoji Locatelli, leggermente modificato per diventare un cardigan. Il filato èdella Madelinetosh, Tosh DK Twist, in Neon Peach, un colore che mi è semprepiaciuto ma che sono riuscita a comprare solo poche settimane fa. Appena ho apertoil pacchetto ho capito che quelle bellissime 4 matasse sarebbero diventate unDragonflies. La Tosh DK Twist è davvero morbida e si lavora che è un piacere,sicuramente la ricomprerò a breve!

As you cansee it is the wonderful Dragonflies Jumper by Joji Locatelli, slightly modified tobecome a cardigan. The yarn is Madelinetosh, Tosh DK Twist, in Neon Peach, acolor I’ve always liked but that I’ve been able to buy just few weeks ago. Assoon as I opened the parcel I knew that those 4 amazing skeins would become aDragonflies. Tosh DK Twist is very soft and knits up like a dream, I’m sure I’llbuy it again very soon!

Trovare dei bottoni che andassero bene è stato impossibile,quindi mi sono ingegnata e li ho fatti da me con del Fimo. Non avevo mai usatoprima questa pasta da modellare colorata e devo dire che è davvero facile dautilizzare e ne terrò di conto per ulteriori bottoni difficili da reperire.

Find theright buttons has been impossible so I did them myself with some Fimo. I’venever used this colorful modeling clay before and I’ve to say that it’s prettyeasy and straight forward to use: I’ll keep it in mind in the future forhard-to-find-buttons.

Il risultato finale mi piace tantissimo: ottimo pattern,filato eccezionale e bottoni in tinta! Non potrei chiedere di meglio!

I’m verypleased with final result: great pattern, beautiful yarn and buttons of theright shade! I couldn’t ask more!
