Glacier Sweep

Non che avessi bisogno di un altro scialle, tutt’altro, ma non potevo nemmeno lasciar lì gli avanzi del Traveller usato per Chickadee, giusto? E infatti per finire il mio Glacier Sweep ho dovuto usare ogni singolo metro di Bold Jumping Spider (variegato blu, verde pavone, viola e rosa) e Okunoshima (caldo rosa fucsia) che avevo.

Glacier Sweep è uno degli ultimi scialli di Stephen West e fa parte della collezione di modelli pubblicati settimanalmente in occasione del ChoreoKAL. Le istruzioni prevedono l’uso di un filato worsted, con la variante per fingering weight, ma io come al solito non ci ho fatto caso ed ho usato un DK, tanto gli scialli vengono sempre bene anche con tensioni totalmente diverse, no?!

Adoro questi due colori insieme e sono sempre più affascinata dai filati della Cephalopod Yarns: i loro colori sono davvero unici e le infinite possibilità di accostamento mi lasciano sempre a bocca aperta e con la voglia di sferruzzare di tutto e di più. Scoprire un altro marchio così mi ci voleva proprio: ora sì non se ne parla proprio di smettere di accatastare filati!

 

I didn’t really need another shawl, but I wouldn’t have dared to not use the Traveller’s leftovers from my Chickadee. And in fact to finish my Glacier Sweep I had to use every single meter of Bold Jumping Spider (the blue, teal, purple and pink yarn) and Okunoshima (the warm fuchsia) I had.

GlacierSweep is one of the latest shawls by Stephen West and it is a pattern from the collection published weekly in occasion of the ChoreoKAL. The instructions suggest the use of worsted weight yarn, with an alternative for fingering weight, but as usual I didn’t bother about that and I used a DK instead. Shawl always come out pretty even if with a totally different gauge, isn’t it?

I love these two colors together and I’m amazed by Cephalopod Yarns: their colors are unique and the infinite combinations leave me speechless and wishing to knit more and more. To find another brand so nice is what I needed most: now I won’t stop to pile up yarns!

Sapevo che prima o poi avrei fatto questo scialle, infatti è stato amore a prima vista. Ho però deciso di usare un filato più sottile rispetto a quello raccomandato nel modello originale ed ho quindi optato, per la seconda volta di fila, per Traveller della Cephalopod Yarns. Ormai avrete capito che mi piace!

Dopo una falsa partenza causata da una scelta non perfetta dei colori, sono finalmente ripartita e in un paio di giorni ho portato a termine il lavoro. Con i ferri da 4,5 mm e qualche aumento in più sono riuscita ad ottenere uno scialle di discrete dimensioni, non troppo grande ma nemmeno troppo piccolo.

I colori che ho usato sono Peshawar per la parte iniziale e The Forbidden Isle accostato ad Emerald City per la parte a buchi. Adoro questi colori e tutti insieme sono una sbalorditivi! E siccome non riesco a mettere giù le mani dai modelli di Stephen West e nemmeno dai filati della CY, ho iniziato un altro scialle, ma ve ne parlerò un’altra volta…

I knew that sooner or later I’d knit this shawl as it has been love at first sight. I decided to use a thinner yarn than the one suggested in the pattern and I opted for the second time in a row for Traveller by Cephalopod Yarns. I think you’ve understood how much I like it!

After a false start caused by a not perfect color choice, I finally casted on again and in a couple of days I finished the project. With 4,5 mm needles and few more increases, I got a decent size shawl, not too big or too small.

The colors I used are Peshawar for the body and The Forbidden Isle next to Emerald City for the lace section. I love these colors and all together are astonishing! And as I can’t put my hands off Stephen West’s patterns and CY’s yarns neither, I started another shawl, but I’ll talk about it another time…

Citron # 3

Ecco qua il mio terzo Citron, lavorato con uno dei miei filati preferiti: Merino 2 ply della Touch Yarns. Acquistai questa lana - e molte altre! - in Nuova Zelanda, ormai quasi tre anni fa e ogni tanto ne tiro fuori una matassa dal mio armadio per realizzare qualcosa di speciale. Stavolta ho deciso di aggiungere una spilla, in modo da poter portare più comodamente questo scialle non troppo grande, senza farlo così cadere dalle spalle. La spilla l'ho realizzata con dell'organza blu e grigia, negli stessi toni del filo. Che ve ne pare? A me piace mooooooltooooo!

Here it is my third Citron, knitted with one of my favorite yarns: Merino 2 ply by Touch Yarns. I bought this yarn - and many more! - in New Zealand, nearly 3 years ago, and every so often I get a skein from my stash to knit something special with it. This time I decided to add a pin to this not so big shawl, in order to wear it more comfortably. I made it with some gray and deep blue organza, in the same shades of the yarn. Do you like it? I personally love it!

Winnowing # 2

Ho cercato per mari e per monti la sfumatura di verde perfetta per lo scialle che avrei dovuto indossare il giorno del matrimonio di mia sorella e quando l’ho trovata ho letteralmente fatto i salti dalla gioia. Il colore in questione è Red Legged Ham Beetle della Cephalopod Yarns e sta divinamente bene accanto al mio vestito verde giada. Arrivata però a casa a San Marcello la temperatura era straordinariamente calda e quindi decisamente non adatta ad un filato in lana merino, seppur sottile e lavorato in modo da ottenere un effetto abbastanza traforato. Questo sarebbe stato il meno, visto che arrivata a circa 10 cm dalla fine del bordo … ho finito il filo!!! E quindi, anche se avessi preso coraggio e deciso di sudare in chiesa, non avrei potuto ugualmente indossare il mio tanto sospirato Winnowing. Che tristezza. Per mettere poi la ciliegina sulla torta, il suddetto filato è al momento out of stock alla CY e quindi non avrei potuto ricomprarlo e soprattutto ritrovare lo stesso bagno di colore, a meno che una persona gentilissima dagli Stati Uniti d’America non avesse deciso di spedirmi una matassa dello stesso preciso bagno di colore del mio Skinny Bugga! e permettermi così di mettere fine a quest’odissea. Ora è finito, lavato ed asciutto e io vorrei essere a casa per andare lentamente incontro all’inverno con il mio bellissimo scialle dalle sfumature verdi!

I have looked everywhere for the right shade of green for the shawl I had to wear the day of my sister’s wedding and when I found it I jumped of joy. The color is Red Legged Ham Beetle by Cephalopod Yarns and it is perfect next to my green jade dress. But when I arrived at home in San Marcello the temperature was extraordinary warm and therefore decidedly not right for a merino yarn, even if in a fingering weight and knitted in a lace pattern. This is the easiest part, as when I reached 10 cm from the end of the shawl border … I run out of yarn!! So, even if I would have had the courage to wear the shawl and swept in the church, I couldn’t put on my lovely Winnowing in any case because I couldn’t finish it. So sad. To put an end to this miserable story, this yarn is at the moment out of stock at Cephalopod so I couldn’t buy it again and, above all, I couldn’t find the same dye lot unless a lovely person from the US wouldn’t sent me a skein of the same same batch of my Skinny Bugga! permitting me to end this odyssey. Now it is finished, washed and blocked, and I wish I was at home to slowly be entering winter with my beautiful green shawl.

Cold Mountain

Filato: Soft Silk Ramie della Pierrot Yarns (70% Ramie + 30% Seta, 100 gr = 470 m, colore nero)

Ferri: Knit Pro in legno da 3 mm.

Finalmente sono riuscita a finire quest'Odissea: il modello è veramente bello ed elegante, ma forse il filato è un po' troppo scivoloso e l'acccoppiata è risultata assai difficile da gestire. Comunque, con molta pazienza, alla fine ce l'ho fatta e mamma ha indossato questa meraviglia il giorno del matrimonio di mia sorella. Super chic!

I finally finished this Odyssey: the pattern is amazing and very elegant, but maybe the yarn is a little too slippery and I had hard times working them together. But with a bit of patience, I did it and my mum wore this wonderful piece at my sister's wedding. Super chic!

Rockefeller #1

Venerdì 13. Primo indizio del Mystery KAL di Stephen West. Somiglia molto allo Spectra, per ora, ma poi chissà!

Ho deciso di usare la Malabrigo Sock nel meraviglioso rosa Light of Love e a contrasto Eggplant. Li adoro!

Ora non mi resta che aspettare un'altra settimana per il secondo indizio!

Friday the 13th. First clue of Mr. Stephen West's Mystery KAL. It looks like Spectra, but who knows what's going to happen!

I decided to use Malabrigo Sock in the wonderful pink Light of Love and the contrasting Eggplant. I love them!

And now I've to wait another week for the second clue!

Wollmeise!

Oggi ho ricevuto un pacchetto dalla Germania. 

Sul forum dedicato al nuovo Mystery KAL di Stephen West è stata aperta una discussione sui filati e colori che verranno usati da coloro che hanno deciso di partecipare a questa attraente sfida. Molti, me compresa, hanno per la testa troppe accoppiate di colori possibili e così si finisce per chiedere consiglio e scambiarsi pareri. Oppure filati. E’ così che sono venuta in possesso di questa favolosa matassina di Wollmeise, la prima per me, arrotolata stretta stretta su se stessa, ma ancora capace di mostrare le sue sfumature in tutta la loro bellezza e vivacità. La adoro. Un immenso grazie a Sandra che ha deciso che questi colori non sono fatti a posta per lei e che così mi ha ceduto questo piccolo tesoro.

 

L’unica pecca, si è per me aperto un nuovo Vaso di Pandora: è difficile resistere a comprare altra Wollmeise quando hai tra le mani della lana con dei colori così belli! Ne voglio sicuramente di più!

Today I got a parcel from Germany.

On the forum dedicate to the new Stephen West’s Mystery KAL, there is a long discussion about the yarns and colors that those who have decided to take part in this attractive challenge are going to use. Many, myself as well, have too many couple of colors in their mind so it is normal asking for help in the choice and exchange opinions. Or yarns. This is how I got possession of this fabulous skein of Wollmeise, my first one, all tight rolled up on itself, but still able to show her shades in all their beauty and brightness. I love it. A huge thank you to Sandra whom has decided that those colors don’t suit her and so sent me this little treasure.

The only fault, a new Vase of Pandora has been opened in front of me: it is very hard to resist in buying more Wollmeise when you can touch some wool with those wonderful colors! I want more!

Rockefeller!

Lo scorso anno – non so per quale assurda ragione – me lo sono lasciato sfuggire, ma questa volta non ho perso tempo ed ho comprato il modello appena l’ho visto. Poi mi sono iscritta al gruppo di Ravelry, Westknits MysteryShawl Knit-a-long, ed è così ufficialmente iniziata la ricerca affannosa del filato perfetto, ovvero la parte più difficile – soprattutto per una come me che non la smetterebbe mai di sperimentare e provare ogni combinazione di colori possibile ed immaginabile. Ma ci ho provato comunque e alla fine mi sono decisa, o quasi. 

Last year – I don’t know why – I didn’t participate, but this time I lost no time and I bought the pattern as soon as I’ve seen it. Then I subscribed to the Ravelry group Westknits Mystery Shawl Knit-a-long, and hence the tough research for the perfect yarn has officially begun, or rather the hardest part – above all for whom like me, wouldn’t never stop to experiment and try every possible and imaginable combination of colors. But in the end I decided, almost.

Oggi è arrivato il mio pacco con le meravigliose matassine comprate da Yarn So Fine, un negozio australiano di filati online. La proprietaria, Katrina, si è dimostrata utilissima e magnificamente efficiente, fotografando i filati uno accanto all’altro e aiutandomi così nella scelta dei colori. Ecco il risultato (ovviamente soggetto a futuri ripensamenti ed ulteriori acquisti!).

 

Today I got my parcel containing beautiful little skeins bought from Yarn So Fine, an online Australian yarn shop. The owner, Katrina, has been very useful and magnificently efficient, taking pics of the yarns one next to the other, helping me chosing the colors. Here is the result (obviously subject to future second thoughts and further purchases!).
