Phengaris Alcon

Non e’ una farfalla, ma un scialle che per il colore e per la lavorazione ricorda la Phengaris Alcon.

Scialli, scialli, scialli! 

Questa volta la scelta e’ caduta sul Colonnade Shawl di Stephen West. Il pattern lo potete trovare su Knitty Fall 2009.

Per realizzarlo ho accoppiato due filati eccezionali: Piura di Filitaly-Lab (50 gr = 400 mt, 65% baby alpaca, 10% merinos, 25 % poliammide, colore 845),  e Merino 2 ply della Touch Yarns (100 gr = 900 mt, 100% merino, colore 275), acquistato in Nuova Zelanda lo scorso Giugno. Il Piura l’ho gia’ usato nella variante “lampone” per il Mea Shawl, il Merino 2 ply e’ invece una ‘new entry’ (anche se e’ assai simile al Mohair-Merino 2 ply, sempre della Touch Yarns, che ho gia’ usato per altri lavori). I colori dei due filati sono nati per stare insieme: il blu polveroso del Piura si accosta perfettamente ai blu e ai grigi del Merino, creando un bellissimo effetto ’nuvola variegata’.

Due parole sul Colonnade. Il risultato mi piace molto (nonostante il visibile errore..ooops!), ma mi sono incatricchiata spesso con le ripetizioni e piu’ volte ho dovuto controllare l’andamento del lavoro, cosa che invece non mi capita spesso. Staro’ perdendo colpi... Comunque e’ un modello molto carino, facile da portare, un accessorio adatto a qualsiasi capo.

Shawls, shawls and more shawls!

This time the choice has been Colonnade Shawl by Stephen West. You can find the pattern on Knitty, Fall 2009.

To knit it I matched two fabulous yarns: Piura by Filitaly-Lab (50 gr = 400 mt, 65% baby alpaca, 10% merinos and 25 % polyamide, colour 845) and Merino 2 ply by Touch Yarns (100gr = 900 mt, 100% merino, colour 275), bought in June in New Zealand. I have already used Piura in the ‘raspberry’ colour variation to knit the Mea Shawl, but Merino 2 ply is a ‘new entry’ (even if I have already used a very similar yarn for other projects, Mohair-Merino 2 ply by Touch Yarns as well). The colours of those two yarns are born to be knitted together: the dusty blue of Piura match perfectly with the blues and the greys of the Merino, creating a beautiful ‘variegated cloud’ effect.

Few words about Colonnade. I really like the result (despite the visible error...oooops!), but I had some troubles with the repetitions, I often had to check the progress of the work, which I don’t usually do. Probably I’m getting old... Anyway the pattern is really nice, it is an easy-wear accessory that can match with every apparel you have in your wardrobe.

Mobius - Italiano/English!

L'altro colore in gioco è il fucsia, il rosa acceso, il lampone, anche un po' fosforescente e se possibile con un tocco di viola dentro.

E allora ecco che per il collo Hoarfrost Mobiüs di Annie Modesitt (Interweave Knits, Fall 2010) la mia amica Carlotta ha puntato sui colori davvero sgargianti e vivi della Merino-Mohair 2 ply (100 gr = 875 m) della Touch Yarns.

Ho acquistato questo filato in Nuova Zelanda, nel minuscolo paesino di Clyde (Otago) durante uno dei miei pellegrinaggi solitari ai diversi negozi/fabbriche di lana e compagnia bella. Senza nemmeno dirvelo, amore a prima vista (di nuovo!). Non ho saputo resistere alla brillantezza dei colori che, sebbene a primo acchito sembrino un po' “troppo”, quando poi li accosti a un cappotto blu, viola o nero, risaltano in tutto il loro splendore.

Come lavoro è stato un pochino noioso. Non amo le cose ripetitive e questo modello, essendo un collo avvolto su se stesso, non poteva che essere ripetitivo per almeno 85 cm. Ma alla fine il risultato ha appagato lo sforzo e la pazienza di lavorare filati lace come questo. Ferri in legno da 3.75 mm e tanto tempo.

Idea per un prossimo lavoro: abbinare la Touch Yarns a un filo di mohair tono su tono, magari un bel punto di viola che ho già individuato tra i Mohair Royal della Lana Gatto!

For the cowl Hoarfrost Mobiüs by Annie Modesitt (Interweave Knits, Fall 2010), my friend Carlotta chose the brilliant colors of Merino-Mohair 2 ply (100 gm = 875 m) by Touch Yarns.

I bought this yarn in New Zealand, in a little village called Clyde (Otago) during one of my solitary pilgrimages to various wool and knitting shops. Without saying a word, it was love at the first sight (again!). I couldn't resist the brightness of the colors even if they seem a little ‘too bright’. But when you draw them near a blue, purple or black coat, they reveal their splendour.

This work has been a tad boring. I don't like repetitive patterns and because this is a cowl wrapped on itself, it has been repetitive for at least 85 cm. In the end, the result was worth it through having patience knitting with lace yarns like this one – using wooden 3.5 mm needles and a lot of the time.

My Idea for the next knitting garment: combine Touch Yarns with a mohair yarn of the same color, hopefully a nice tone of violet that I have already seen in Lana Gatto Mohair Royal!
