Venerdì 13. Primo indizio del Mystery KAL di Stephen West. Somiglia molto allo Spectra, per ora, ma poi chissà!

Ho deciso di usare la Malabrigo Sock nel meraviglioso rosa Light of Love e a contrasto Eggplant. Li adoro!

Ora non mi resta che aspettare un'altra settimana per il secondo indizio!

Friday the 13th. First clue of Mr. Stephen West's Mystery KAL. It looks like Spectra, but who knows what's going to happen!

I decided to use Malabrigo Sock in the wonderful pink Light of Love and the contrasting Eggplant. I love them!

And now I've to wait another week for the second clue!

Rockefeller!

Lo scorso anno – non so per quale assurda ragione – me lo sono lasciato sfuggire, ma questa volta non ho perso tempo ed ho comprato il modello appena l’ho visto. Poi mi sono iscritta al gruppo di Ravelry, Westknits MysteryShawl Knit-a-long, ed è così ufficialmente iniziata la ricerca affannosa del filato perfetto, ovvero la parte più difficile – soprattutto per una come me che non la smetterebbe mai di sperimentare e provare ogni combinazione di colori possibile ed immaginabile. Ma ci ho provato comunque e alla fine mi sono decisa, o quasi. 

Last year – I don’t know why – I didn’t participate, but this time I lost no time and I bought the pattern as soon as I’ve seen it. Then I subscribed to the Ravelry group Westknits Mystery Shawl Knit-a-long, and hence the tough research for the perfect yarn has officially begun, or rather the hardest part – above all for whom like me, wouldn’t never stop to experiment and try every possible and imaginable combination of colors. But in the end I decided, almost.

Oggi è arrivato il mio pacco con le meravigliose matassine comprate da Yarn So Fine, un negozio australiano di filati online. La proprietaria, Katrina, si è dimostrata utilissima e magnificamente efficiente, fotografando i filati uno accanto all’altro e aiutandomi così nella scelta dei colori. Ecco il risultato (ovviamente soggetto a futuri ripensamenti ed ulteriori acquisti!).

 

Today I got my parcel containing beautiful little skeins bought from Yarn So Fine, an online Australian yarn shop. The owner, Katrina, has been very useful and magnificently efficient, taking pics of the yarns one next to the other, helping me chosing the colors. Here is the result (obviously subject to future second thoughts and further purchases!).

Zuzu

Fine settimana di Pasqua e le Poste sono chiuse quindi io non ho ricevuto i due pacchi “filanti” che sto aspettando da giorni: quello spedito da mia sorella dall’Italia e quello proveniente da Skeins. Uff. Per di più i negozi sono chiusi e così ho dovuto dare fondo alle mie risorse lanifere ed usare ogni singolo grammo di filato avanzato da altri progetti. E pensare che a San Marcello ho un armadio pieno di lana, cotone, bamboo e chi più ne ha più ne metta!

Easter week end and here the Post Office is closed so I didn’t receive the two “yarny” parcels I’m waiting for: the one sent by my sister from Italy and the other one coming from Skeins. Uff. On top of that, shops are closed too and so I had to use every single gram of yarn leftover from other projects. And I still think about the wardrobe full of wool, cotton, bamboo and so on that I’ve in San Marcello!!

 

Insomma, avevo una matassa di Malabrigo Worsted avanzata dallo Zephyr e così ho cercato un pattern carino per poterla utilizzare e su Ravelry ho trovato questo geniale scialle-collo di Carina Spencer, Zuzu’s Petals. In un batter d’occhio l’ho iniziato e in serata era già finito e in fase di bloccaggio. Ve l’ho già detto che amo il colore Garnet e vorrei che Malabrigo lo facesse anche per la Sock così potrei farci il copri spalle per il matrimonio di mia sorella (mi servirebbe un filato di quel preciso colore!). Il modello di Carina è davvero eccezionale e ogni volta che mi trovo davanti a un pattern semplice ma nuovo e valido mi domando: “Ma perché non mi è mai venuto in mente di fare qualcosa così?!”. Maledetta pigrizia, è sempre più facile sferruzzare qualcosa di giù bello e scritto nero su bianco, no? Comunque… vi stra-consiglio Zuzu’s Petals: veloce, d’effetto e perfetto per finire quei gomitoli di lana bellissima che giacciono abbandonati nel vostro baule!

Anyway  . . . I had a skein of Malabrigo Worsted leftover from Zephyr so I looked for a lovely pattern to knit with it and on Ravelry I found this genial shawl-cowl by Carina Spencer, Zuzu’s Petals. In a second I began it and in the evening it was already done and blocking. I already told you that I absolutely love this Garnet color and I wish Malabrigo did it even in Sock yarn so I could knit my shrug for my sister wedding with it (I need a yarn in this very same color!). Carina’s pattern is amazing and every time I have in front of me a simple but yet useful and lovely pattern I ask myself “Why I didn’t ever think to design something like that?!”. Damned laziness, it is always easier knit something already written on black and white, no? Well, I recommend you Zuzu’s Petals: it is quick, exquisite and perfect to finish those unfortunate single balls of yarn that lay abandoned in your stash!

Zephyr

Il gruppo Kal from Italy su Ravelry ha scelto di eseguire, per il mese di Marzo, il pattern Argo di Svetlana Volkova per sperimentare il Contiguos Method. Questo nuovo sistema, ideato da Susie Myers (SusieM su Ravelry), permette di realizzare pullover, cardigan e quant’altro top down e senza cuciture, ma eseguendo gli aumenti in un modo alternativo rispetto ai classici raglan o set-in-sleeves.

The Ravelry group Kal from Italy has chosen to knit, for the month of March, Argo pattern by Svetlana Volkova to experiment the Contiguos Method. This new system, ideated by Susie Myers (SusieM on Ravelry), permits to knit a pullover, cardigan or whatever you want, top-down and seamlessly, increasing in an alternative way from  classic raglan or set-in-sleeves methods.

 

Sono stata subito colpita da questo nuovo tipo di costruzione e ho curiosato qua e là alla ricerca di un pattern che attirasse la mia attenzione e alla fine ho trovato Zephyr, un cardigan con scollo a V decorato da un delizioso motivo a coste a chiuso da due grandi alamari. E non potevo fare scelta migliore. Non solo ho avuto modo di provare il Contiguos Method, che ritengo eccezionale, ma ho anche imparato un nuovo e utilissimo modo per avviare le maglie, il Judy’s Magic Cast on. Per di più il pattern di Tori Gurbisz è scritto alla perfezione ed è super dettagliato, quindi non c’è stato verso di sbagliare un punto e il risultato che ho ottenuto mi piace tantissimo.

I’ve been hooked immediately by this new king of construction and I browsed here and there to find a captivating pattern and finally I found Zephyr, a V-neck cardigan decorated by a gorgeous rib buttonband and closed by two big toggles. And I couldn’t have made a better choice. I’ve not just tried the Contiguos Method, which I think is exceptional, but I even learnt a new and great useful way of casting on stitches, the Judy’s Magic Cast On. On top of that, Tori Gurbisz’s pattern is written to perfection and is super detailed so you can’t wrong a stitch and I love the result I got.

Come filato ho scelto la Malabrigo Worsted (100% Merino, 100 gr = 193 m) nel bellissimo colore Garnet: un caldo arancio arricchito da tocchi di rosa che lo rendono leggermente variegato. Unico. E’ la seconda volta che uso questo filato e sicuramente non l’ultima, lo trovo incredibilmente morbido e perfetto per la realizzazione di caldi ed avvolgenti capi per l’inverno.

The yarn I’ve chosen is Malabrigo Worsted (100% Merino, 100 g = 193 mt) in the wonderful color Garnet: a lovely variegated warm orange enriched by touches of pink. Unique. It’s the second time I use this yarn and for sure not the last one as I find it incredibly soft and perfect to knit warm and cuddly winter garments.

Sfumature | Shades

Ecco qua finita la mini cappa che ho iniziato il 19 Novembre al Workshop organizzato a Carate Brinza da Luisa.

Here is the mini cape I begun during the workshop organized by Luisa in Carate Brianza on the 19th of November.

Il pattern è lo "Sfumature" di Emma e come al solito ho apportato alcune modifiche, seppur lievi. Innanzitutto ho seminato qua e là qualche aumento in più perché mi sembrava che la cappa risultasse essere un pochino troppo stretta. Poi, sempre per lo stesso motivo, ho spostato più in alto l’apertura centrale tra le trecce, anticipandola di una ventina di ferri circa e aggiungendo una serie di bottoncini per un’eventuale chiusura. Il risultato finale è una calda e colorata nuvola di morbidezza e non vedo l’ora di sfoggiarla sui miei cappotti!

The pattern is "Shades" by Emma and, as usual, I made some little changes. First I put here and there few more increases as it seemed that the cape was going to be a little too tight. Then, for the same reason, I moved further up the central opening between the cables, anticipating it of about twenty rows and adding a set of buttons for a possible closing. The result is a warm and colorful cloud of softness which I cannot wait to show off over my coats! =)

Il filato è la Malagrigo Worsted, un 100% merino a capo singolo filato a mano (100 gr per 192 m circa). Come riportato sulla fascetta, ho ottenuto circa 10 maglie in 10 cm usando ferri con punte da 5,5 mm. Scivola bene sui ferri, ma forse è meglio lavorarlo con quelli in alluminio per avere una scorrevolezza ottimale.

Al tatto la matassa è morbidissima e corposa, come del resto il lavoro che se ne ottiene. Lo trovo adattissimo per lavori con trecce, visto che la consistenza del filato mette perfettamente in rilievo e quindi in risalto questo tipo di lavorazione, sottolineando intrecci e curve senza distorcerle. Ovviamente, essendo abbastanza ingombrante, tende a non drappeggiare troppo, regalando piuttosto un effetto avvolgente e caldo, adattissimo per la realizzazione di capi invernali come maglioni, colli e sciarpe.

La cartella colori mette di fronte a dure scelte tanto è ampia. Si divide in tre categorie: true solids, con 12 colori ottenuti tingendo la lana prima della lavorazione; kettle dyed solids, più di 70 colori che riescono a coprire tutte le gradazioni, caratterizzati da lievi sfumature (tinti dopo la filatura); e infine i variegati, con circa 45 opzioni. Quello che ho usato per il mio lavoro rientra in quest’ultima categoria: Azalea, un mix di fucsia, viola e blu davvero energizzante e allo stesso tempo caldo. Perfetta scelta per l’inverno. Le lane o matasse sono tutte tinte a mano in piccoli bagni e viene raccomandato il lavaggio a mano e l’asciugatura in piano.

Io mi sono innamorata della Malabrigo Worsted e non posso che consigliarvi di provarla, anche perché il prezzo è davvero eccezionale: circa €10 a matassa! 

The yarn I used is Malagrigo Worsted, a 100% merino single ply handspun (100 g, 192 m). As reported on the label, I got about 10 stitches over 10 cm using 5.5 mm needles. It slides quite well on the needles but maybe it is better to work it with aluminum ones to obtain a very good sliding.

Skeins are soft and dense to the touch, like the knitting that you obtain. I highly recommend Malabrigo Worsted for cables projects, because the texture of the yarn highlights and emphasizing very well twists and curves without distorting them. Of course, being a quite bulky yarn, tends not to drape so easily, giving rather a wrap-around and warm effect, resulting then very suitable for the realization of winter clothes like sweaters, collars and scarves.

The color chart face you in front of tough choices as it is very large. It is divided into three categories: true solids, with 12 colors obtained dyeing the wool before processing it; kettle dyed solids, more than 70 colors that cover all nuances, characterized by subtle shades (dyed after spinning), and finally the variegated, with about 45 options. What I used for my work falls into the last category: Azalea, a mix of fuchsia, purple and blue at the same time very energizing and warm. Perfect choice for the winter. Wool or skeins are all hand-dyed in small batches and it is recommended hand washing and drying them flat.

I fell in love with Malabrigo Worsted and I can only advise you to try it, because the price is exceptional: about € 10 per skein!
