Scoiattolo | Squirrel

From my trustworthy seller at the market, a few weeks ago, I left groped by Feltro by Lana Grossa, a bulky yarn usually used for felting. The color is a master key, which looks fine on everything, a beautiful squirrel gray.

But I decided I did not want to knit something that shrinks when you put it in the washing machine, but to exploit it differently. I wanted to make a cardigan simple and quick but snappy, warm but not too bulky, to be worn over pants or skirts, so I dusted off a few years old Vogue Knitting and decided to knit for the third time one of my favorite patterns: the Raglan Jacket by Cecilie GMacdonald.

However, even this time, I have not been able to follow the step by step instructions (even for the other two I did not followed them to tackle the different size and texture of the yarns I had chosen), first because Feltro is different from the yarn suggested for the Raglan Jacket, secondly because I wanted to knit it top down and not from the bottom up. So: with 6 mm needles instead of 12 mm ones, and a different number of stitches, I started my cardi and within few days I finished it! The result is not so different from the original, except for the fact that the lace motif came upside down, since I have not changed the pattern’s chart, and I have done some more repetition in order to reach the same length as indicated by Cecilie.

I cannot wait to wear it, it’s a pity it’s not cold enough yet!

Castagna - Chestnut

It is now late autumn and its colors are everywhere: in the wood with the leaves colored in yellow, red and brown, on the table with pumpkins and chestnuts, at home with the first fireplaces burning. And I have been affected, choosing for my new cardigan a very rough (and smelly too) yarn in a warm brown shade.
This time I improvised, starting from the neck, worked in peacock stitch like the edges and the button band. I then continued with raglans and down along the torso and sleeves, all in stockinette stitch. The opening is slightly shifted to the left to create a pleasing asymmetry. Finally, for the button holes I used the holes in the motif instead of creating new ones and I really like the vaguely curled effect that came out. Buttons are my pride and joy: coated with a thin cord and in the very same shade of the yarn.
Chanzer Trachenwolle of Gründl (100 g = 190 m, 100% wool, color 123) is rustic, ideal for those who love sweaters in a perfect "mountaineer" style, but not for who suffers from itching! Anyway I really liked its consistency that has allowed me to have a peacock stitch very well defined. The only flaw, the lingering smell of sheep that I hope will go away with the next washings and with all the perfumes I used to fill the cardigan!
A special thanks to my personal photographer who has valorized Chestnut!

Tipicamente autunnale/Tipical for autumn

The first man pattern – seriously!

It is a pullover I knitted for my dad, a simple raglan pull with a round neck: with two colors that cross over in the middle of the garment with a play of stripes.

The yarn I choose is Supremo (100% merino, 50 gm = 90 m) by Tropical Lane in red (110) and brown (804). It's a soft yarn, smooth and consistent. Ideal for the looming winter.

The wool is ‘fat’ enough to be worked with 4,5 mm or 5 mm needles. A joy to touch and a pleasure for the short amount of time to finish it!

The stripes are just an excuse to use 6 balls of each color that were stagnating in my closet for at least the last two winters. I didn't know what to knit. I should carry out these ‘locate and discover operations’ more often!
