Hazelhurst

Secondo lavoro portato a termine durante lo scorso fine settimana pasquale. Ho usato ogni rimasuglio di filato che ho trovato in casa e questo è quello che ne è venuto fuori: una versione rivisitata di Hazelhurst, la bellissima sciarpa di Kate Davies.

Second project finished during last Easter week end. I used every leftover I could find at home and this is what I got: a different version of Hazelhurst, the amazing scarf designed by Kate Davies.

L’avevo già inserita nella lista dei progetti da fare e visto che avevo giusto giusto mezzo gomitolo di Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool rossa, avanzo del Coraline, e mezzo di Patons grigia, avanzo del bordo del Damson, ho pensato di metter su le maglie per un piccolo collo ed esercitarmi un po’ con il metodo stranded. 

It was already in my list of “must do” projects and as I had half skein of red Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, from my Coraline, and half of gray Patons, from the edging of Damson, I thought to cast on the stitches necessary for a cowl to exercise a little with the stranded method.

Il motivo geometrico è davvero carino e lo scambio di colori al centro ha reso il modello ancor più particolare. L’accoppiare questi due filati poi è stata davvero un’ottima idea, il risultato è davvero caldo, morbido e leggero, perfetto per un collo! 

The geometric motif is really cute and the change of colors in the middle of the pattern makes it even more unique. And putting together these two yarns has been a very good idea: the result is really warm, soft and light, perfect for a cowl!

Coral(ine)

Ce l’ho fatta: sono riuscita a finire il mio Coraline! Ci ho messo un po’ di tempo, ma i ferri da 3 mm che ho dovuto usare per ottenere una tensione simile a quella consigliata non mi hanno certo aiutata. Ed ecco qua il risultato.

Come al solito ho apportato qualche piccola modifica:
-innanzitutto ho eseguito il bordo del busto e delle maniche a coste 1/1, omettendo quindi l’orlo e lo sbuffo dei polsini;
-invece del classico bordo i-cord ho pensato di sfruttare quello usato per il Goodale (sul diritto del lavoro: 1d, p1r, 1d – sul rovescio: p1r, 1d, p1r);
-per quanto riguarda le maniche, ho montato meno maglie ed eseguito una serie di aumenti per arrivare al giromanica con lo stesso numero di maglie stabilito dallo istruzioni (62 m iniziali + 2 m ogni 19esimo giro x 5).

E’ la prima volta che mi cimento con lo smoking e avevo paura che la lavorazione venisse troppo stretta, invece con il bloccaggio tutto è andato al suo posto e sono molto soddisfatta del risultato. Ho trovato geniale il metodo per la realizzazione delle asole, un sistema nuovo per me ma che, se ricordo bene, la mia mamma di solito usava nei vestitini delle mie sorelle e miei. L’unica cosa che mi lascia un po’ perplessa è il bordo con l’icord che sembra arrotolarsi verso l’interno, ma non ho intenzione di rimettere mano a questo lungo lavoro e sono sicura che un colpo di ferro lo aiuterà a stare al suo posto!

Pollice su per Ysolda!

I did it: I finally finished my Coraline! I have needed time, but the 3 mm needles that I had to use to obtain a similar gauge to the one recommended by the pattern didn’t help me at all.

As usual I did some modifications:
-first of all, I knitted the edges of the body and sleeves in 1/1 ribbing, omitting the folded hem and the puff sleeves;
-instead of the classic i-cord edging I preferred the one used in Goodale (RS: k1, s1p, k1 – WS: s1p, 1k, s1p);
-for the sleeves I casted on a smaller number of stitches and knitted few increases to arrive at the underarms with the same number of stitches of the pattern (CO 62 sts + 2 incr every 19th row x 5).

It is the first time I knit smocking stitch and I was worried that the garment would be not elastic, but with the blocking everything went all right and I’m very pleased with the result. I found genial the technique to create button loops, a new one for me but, if I well remember, my mum used to use for my sisters and my clothes. The only thing I don’t like so much is the i-cord edging that looks rolling on itself, but I don’t want to change anything and I’m sure some ironing will help it to stay on place!

Coral(ine)

Non ho fatto in tempo a finire il mio Goodale (è ufficialmente entrato a pieno titolo nella mia top ten list di pattern preferiti!) che ho già iniziato un nuovo lavoro con lo stesso filato: la meravigliosa Silky Wool di Elsebeth Lavold, stavolta in una bellissima tonalità di rosso corallo. Non ho resistito!

Il modello che ho scelto è uno dei più gettonati su Ravelry: il Coraline di Ysolda Teague. Ho fatto diverse prove, ma non sono riuscita ad ottenere la tensione suggerita sulle istruzioni (24 maglie in 10 cm) e così ho avviato il numero di maglie indicate per la taglia 34” in modo da avere una 38”, spero funzioni. Ho anche già apportato la prima modifica: il bordo non mi convinceva e così lo sto facendo a coste 1/1 e credo che ripeterò anche per le maniche.

Ora non mi resta che armarmi di tanto pazienza e sferruzzare a maglia rasata diritta per circa 40 cm, un lavoro abbastanza noioso, ma spero che mi aiuti a passare il tempo nei prossimi giorni in previsione dei circa 4.500 km da percorrere in macchina per raggiungere Adelaide. Tifate per me!

As I cast off my Goodale, which is officially in my top ten list of favorite patterns, I began a new project using the same yarn: the wonderful Silky Wool by Elsebeth Lavold, this time in a lovely red coral shade. I couldn’t resist!

The pattern I choose is one of the most famous on Ravelry: Coraline by Ysolda Teague. I did several swatches, but I couldn’t obtain the gauge suggested in the instructions (24 sts in 10 cm) so I cast on the number of stitches for the size 34” to obtain a 38”, I hope it is gonna work! I did the first modification too: I didn’t like the edge so I knit few rows in 1/1 rib pattern and I think I’ll knit the same in the sleeves.

Now I just have to knit in stockinette stitch for about 40 cm, a boring job but I hope it will help me to spend the time in the next few days as my boyfriend and I have to drive for 4.500 km to get to Adelaide. Cheer for me!

Coccinelle | Ladybugs

Né di Venere né di Marte, non si sposa e non si parte, né si dà principio all’arte. Per di più oggi è venerdì 13. Credo però che la buona causa per la quale ho messo mano ai ferri mi proteggerà da ogni sfortuna.

Cuore di Maglia ha lanciato un nuovo KAL su Ravelry, ma chiunque può parteciparvi e realizzare queste bellissime scarpine per neonati … fortunati! Cristiana ha appositamente disegnato e scritto il pattern, correlandolo di utilissime foto che, passo passo, aiutano nella realizzazione delle scarpine.

Domenica parto e sono tutta presa dai preparativi, ma ho trovato comunque il tempo di sferruzzare qualche piccolo paio di Ladybugs… che ne dite, lo trovate anche voi? =)

Today is Friday the 13th, but I think that bad luck will stay away from me as I started a new good project.

Cuore di Maglia launched a new KAL on Ravelry, but everyone can participate and knit those beautiful booties for lucky babies! Cristiana designed and wrote the pattern, inserting useful pics to help knitting the booties.

I leave for Australia on Sunday and I’m very busy with the packing but I found anyway a little time to knit a few couples of Ladybugs … can you find some time too? =)

Santa Claus

Ecco qua il mio primo cardigan con zip! Quello che vedete è babbo, il mio, che ha scelto questo colore, un rosso acceso, in perfetto stile Babbo Natale.

Ho eseguito questo capo bottom-up, senza usare particolari strategie né motivo, realizzando solo un i-cord lungo l’apertura in modo da avere un bordo unito e carino dove poter applicare la cerniera. 

Ho usato il Globe Uni della Adriafil (80% lana+20%nylon, 50 g = 87 m, colore 27) che, nonostante la percentuale di nylon, si è rivelato essere morbido e non scivoloso al tatto e devo ammettere che è stato un piacere lavorarlo, scorre sui ferri che è una bellezza. 

Ho trovato assai noioso applicare la zip cucendola a mano, ma il risultato finale mi piace e, soprattutto, piace a lui! =)

Here is my first zipped cardigan! The man here is my daddy who chose this color, a bright red in perfect Santa Claus style.

I knitted the cardigan from the bottom up, using no strategies and motifs, but just an i-cord along the front edges in order to have a nice and smooth side where to sew the zip.

I used Globe Uni by Adriafil (80%wool+20%nylon, 50 g = 87 m, color 27) that, although the percentage of nylon, turned out to be soft and not slippery at all to the touch and I must admit it was a pleasure to work, it runs on the needles very well, which is a beauty.

I found quite boring hand sewing the zip, but I like the result and, above all, he likes it! =)

Fragola - Strawberry

Il rosso, ormai l’avrete capito, è il mio colore preferito e l’ho scelto in questa bellissima sfumatura per realizzare un collo morbido e vaporoso.

Il modello è lo stesso della mini cappa fatta con la Puno della Filitaly-lab, un pattern trovato su Vogue Knitting Holiday 2010: un collo che arriva a coprire le spalle, lavorato in tondo seguendo un delizioso motivo-pizzo a foglie, idea della designer Eline Oftedal.

Il filato è lo Shanghai-g della Fonty (72% kid mohair, 28% seta, 50 gr = 80 m, colore 182), un sofficissimo mohair impreziosito da una buona percentuale di seta, che ho lavorato con ferri da 5 mm.

L’originale non prevede la presenza delle frange, ma mi sembrava che ci stessero bene e quindi eccole qua!

Red, as you should know by now, is my favourite color and I choose this beautiful shade to knit a soft and airy cowl.

The pattern is the same of my mini cape knitted with Puno by Filitaly-lab, a pattern found on Vogue Knitting Holiday 2010: a loose-fitting, over-the shoulder cowl worked in the round in a nice lace leaves pattern, from the designer Eline Oftedal.

Tha yarn is Shanghai-g by Fonty (72% kid mohair, 28% silk, 50 gr = 80 m, color 182), a fluffy mohair embellished with a good percentage of silk that I worked with 5 mm needles.

The original has no fringes, but I thought they would be nice and there they are!

Cardigan in mohair rosso che più rosso non si può, rosso Coca Cola, anzi rosso Babbo Natale!

Il filato è il Mohair Royal della Lana Gatto, 80% Kid Mohair e 20% Poliammide, 25 gr =215 mt, colore 12246. L'ho lavorato con i ferri da 4 mm e da 3 mm per il girovita, partendo dal collo a scendere. Niente fronzoli né bottoni, unico vezzo una semplice spilla usata per chiusura.

Il modello doveva essere simile a un vecchio cardigan di un'amica, ma ho cambiato qualche dettaglio ed ecco qua la mia versione dei fatti!

Cardigan in red mohair, a very red tone, Coca Cola red, Santa Claus red!

The yarn is Mohair Royal by Lana Gatto, 80% Kid Mohair and 20% Polyammide, 25 gr = 215 mt, color 12246. I knitted it with 4 mm needles and 3 mm needles for the waist band, top-down. No fripperies neither buttons, but just a simple “brooch” to close it.

The pattern should be similar to a friend's one, but I made some changes and this is my version!
