Buon Natale! - Merry Xmas!

My Christmas day began with a phone call to my sister in Paris...

Then Manny and I put on our Xmas tree and some candles (this is our bush-xmas-tree!)...

...while Dario was cooking the lunch (obviously we helped him!)...

 ...Agnello arrosto...
 ...roasted lamb...

 ...con patate e peperoni...
...with roasted potatos and capsicum...

...rosemary focaccia (she'd be bread but the yeasts didn't work!)...

 ...e vino rosso!
 ...and red wine!

Buon Natale a tutti i miei lettori!
Merry Xmas! I wish you a lovely day and I hope your presents will be more than mine (I got none!)

Ranco-ing!

Ho fatto un acquisto su Yay for yarn!, un negozio on line australiano molto carino.

From Italy I brought with me just my circular needles kit by Knit Pro and as soon as I set foot in Australia I bought some skeins of yarn. I shopped at Yay of yarn, a lovely Australian online shop and Ranco Multi by Auracania Yarns was in my chart!

This yarn is produced using a fine wool of lambs raised in south Patagonia Region and hand-dyed in Santiago, Chile, by a group of artisans, Auracania Yarns. Ranco (it is the name of a lake located in the South of Chile) Multi is perfect to knit shawls and scarves because is soft enough and at the same time it defines very well  lacy pattern as the one I used. To knit my shawl I used one skein (100 gr = 344 mt, 75% wool and 25% polyamide, colour 302), with a leftover of 19 gr (see post “Intrecciami”). Then I added few rounded beads on every edge, beautifying the shawl and making it more sophisticated and elegant.

Olga Buraya-Kefelian

Visitandolo ho subito capito chi era, conosco i suoi lavori pubblicati nei suoi libri o su riviste come Interweave Knits, belli e interessanti.

I was surfing in Ravelry and in the newly published patterns I found this one. A kind of cable to wear like necklace or bracelet, made by two holed strips intertwined together.
You can find Olga in her blog, here
Watching it I immediately understood who she is, I know her patterns published in her books or in magazines like Interweave Knits, beautiful and interesting.
So, all this monologue to tell you that....I have already begun my cable!

Phengaris Alcon

It is not a butterfly, it is a shawl that because of the colour and the shape it reminds me Phengaris Alcon.

Shawls, shawls and more shawls!

This time the choice has been Colonnade Shawl by Stephen West. You can find the pattern on Knitty, Fall 2009.
To knit it I matched two fabulous yarns: Piura by Filitaly-Lab (50 gr = 400 mt, 65% baby alpaca, 10% merinos and 25 % polyamide, colour 845) and Merino 2 ply by Touch Yarns (100gr = 900 mt, 100% merino, colour 275), bought in June in New Zealand. I have already used Piura in the ‘raspberry’ colour variation to knit the Mea Shawl, but Merino 2 ply is a ‘new entry’ (even if I have already used a very similar yarn for other projects, Mohair-Merino 2 ply by Touch Yarns as well). The colours of those two yarns are born to be knitted together: the dusty blue of Piura match perfectly with the blues and the greys of the Merino, creating a beautiful ‘variegated cloud’ effect.

Few words about Colonnade. I really like the result (despite the visible error...oooops!), but I had some troubles with the repetitions, I often had to check the progress of the work, which I don’t usually do. Probably I’m getting old... Anyway the pattern is really nice, it is an easy-wear accessory that can match with every apparel you have in your wardrobe.

Morticia

A few weeks ago, before I left Italy, I finished, after some long labour, a pullover in mohair and alpaca for a friend. I can’t stand knitting with mohair because it needs a lot of attention and takes a long time, but I have to admit that it was worth it.
The yarns I used are Mohair Royal by Lana Gatto (80% kid mohair, 20% polyamide, 25 gr = 215 mt, colour 5) and Carezza by Adriafil (70% angora, 20% polyamide, 10% wool, 25 gr = 83 mt, colour 1). I knitted the body to the armholes and the edges of the sleeves with the alpaca and the remainder with the mohair. So I alternated dark areas with transparent ones to create an elegant and sexy style.
I’ve already talked about Mohair Royal (I used it in many projects with Kauni for example) and Carezza is a beautiful yarn, soft, with a great yield and downy, perfect for pullovers and garments to wear without anything underneath.

Nebbia-Mist

This time I varieted the number of the lace repetition, increasing until four lines and then decreasing until two, but the pattern is still the same: Mea Shawl by Emma Fassio! I love it.
Yarn: Mist by Patons, 50% tencel, 50% acrylic, 50 gr = 232 mt, color 4530.
Neeldes: 5 mm.
The yarn is composed by too much acrylic but is very soft and airy and color is wonderful, brillant and intense. It is perfect to knit lacy shawls and scarves though.

Dusty in rosa

I have my pics back so I can update the blog!
This is Dusty, knitted with Puno 2 by Filitaly-Lab in the beautiful raspberry color.
The pattern is here in the blog in the right column.

Etsy!

Here I am...after few days of silence. Tecnology is not for me and just after 3 months my laptop is broken, leaving me without photos.
In the meanwhile I opened my Etsy shop because I really don't know where to put all the stuff I knit! I hope it has been a good idea!

Rice twin-set

My sister-in-law saw in a magazine a little cape knitted in rice stitch so I began immediately my project!
I used Létt-Lopi by Istex, 100% island pure new wool (50 gr = 100 mt), in a fabulous rasin purple (1414) and 4,5 mm circular needles.
It is knitted from the neck, I alternated the rice stitch to some rows with holes (to understand: 1yo, 2ktog!) until 35 cm length. Et viola, knitted!
And to complete the set: a beanie, knitted working a strand of Létt-Lopi with one of purple kid mohair, to soften up this rough wool (but with awesome shades!). 1/1 rib edge and rice stitch for the body like in the mini cape.
Do you like them?

Xmas time!

A friend of mine sent me this link. An alternative brilliant idea to the usual advent calendar.
The countdown has begun!
