Pavone Viola | Purple Peafowl

Ecco cosa ho combinato in queste settimane. Non molto direi, ma almeno mi sono cimentata in qualcosa di nuovo.

This is what I’ve done in the last two weeks. Not a lot, I know, but at least I experimented on something new.

Con i due gomitoli di Loden e uno e poco più di Silk Garden avanzati dal Rotation, ho improvvisato questo bolero, sperimentando il Contiguos Method ed utilizzando uno dei miei punti preferiti, il pavone. Così ho montato le maglie necessarie per il collo, aumentato fino al sottomanica e poi ho alternato i due filati per il resto del lavoro, finchè non sono finiti. Per il bordo ho optato per l’i-cord. Ho infine dimenticato di fare l'asola per il bottone e quindi ho pensato di usare il fermascialle della Knit Pro per chiudere il bolero. Oooooopsss!

With two balls of Loden and one and a little more of Silk Garden, leftovers from Rotation, I improvised this bolero, using the Contiguos Method and one of my favorites stitches, feather and fun. So I casted on the right number of stitches for the neck and I increased until the underarms. I then alternated the two yarns until I finished them. For the edges I’ve chosen the i-cord bind off. I eventually forgot to do the buttonhole so I thought usign my Knit Pro pinshawl. Oooopsss!

E ora non mi resta che cercare un bel vestitino, magari viola, da abbinarci!  =)

And now the only thing I’ve to do is to find a lovely dress to go with it! =)

Rotazione Stellare | Stellar Rotation

Nonostante questo tempo, il mio Rotation è riuscito ad asciugarsi ed eccolo qui!
 
Despite the weather, my Rotation dried and here it is!
 Ho usato, come vi avevo già anticipato, la Noro Silk Garden in una bellissima serie di sfumature che vanno dal verde acido al marrone rossiccio, dal viola al blu elettrico, alternata alla Loden della Grignasco, un tweed viola che mi ha rubato il cuore.
 
I used, as I already anticipated, Noro Silk Garden in a fabulous series of shades that ranges from acid green to reddish brown, from purple to electric blue, alternated to Loden by Grignasco, a purple tweed that stole my heart.

 Il pattern, Rotation, è davvero carino e le istruzioni sono veramente chiare e precise. Ho però apportato qualche modifica: ho eliminato le righe del corpo (il risultato mi sembrava troppo da ape!), ho eseguito un’apertura nello sprone in modo da poter usare questi favolosi bottoni a forma di stellina (ok, mi piacciono le stelle!) che riprendo perfettamente uno dei colori della Noro, ed ho infine allungato le maniche, eseguite sempre a maglia rasata rovescia alternando i due filati. Che ne dite, vi piace?
 
The pattern, Rotation, is very cute and the instructions are very well written. I added some modifications: I eliminated the stripes on the body (the result looked like too much like a bee!), I did an open yoke so I’ve been able to use some wonderful star buttons I had (ok, I like stars!) in the very same shade of one of Noro colors, and finally I made the sleeves longer knitting them in reverse stockinette stitch using both yarns. Do you like it?

Siccome mi è avanzato pure qualche gomitolo pensavo di realizzare un collo, magari a coste o a punto brioche, da abbinare al mio Rotation…ma solo dopo aver finito il Damson!

Desert Crow

Finalmente mia sorella da Parigi mi ha spedito le foto del maglione che le avevo spedito a Natale. Vi ho già detto quanto sia bella la lana che ho usato in questo post, ora invece vi faccio vedere quello che ne è venuto fuori...

Le trecce iniziano dal collo, lavorate a coste in modo da essere reversibili, continuano poi lungo i raglan per scendere lungo i fianchi. Un maglione semplice, caldo, morbido e nero, proprio come voleva Federica.

Finally my sister sent me from Paris the pics of the pullover that I mailed her over Xmas. I've already told you how beautiful is the wool I've used in this post, now I'll show what I knitted...

The cables begin in the neck, worked in a rib pattern so they are reversible, they continue along the raglan to finally go down along the sides. A simple sweater, warm, soft and black, as Federica wanted.

Flop

La scorsa settimana, messo da parte l’amato Coraline, ho iniziato un nuovo modello: il Boreal di Kate Davies. Mi è piaciuto fin da subito e ho pensato di usare la Noro Silk Garden e la Loden che mi sono portata fin quaggiù nel mio bagaglio. Il colore della prima è un miscuglio, bellissimo, di viola fiorentina, marrone, verde acido e viola elettrico, mentre la Loden è un filato tweed nello stesso preciso colore del viola fiorentina presente anche nella Noro. Per questo ovvio motivo il disegno a stelle e alberelli del Boreal non risaltava abbastanza e, con molto rammarico, ho deciso di disfare tutto e usare quest’accoppiata di fili per un altro progetto. Resto pur sempre dell’idea che, cambiando il colore di fondo, avrei potuto usare lo stesso la Noro a creare un motivo sfumato di gradevole effetto ottico, ma le coppie perfette non si scoppiano e quindi eccomi qui, alle prese con . . . Rotation!

Last week, I put aside the beloved Coraline and started a new pattern: Boreal by Kate Davies. I liked it right away and I thought to use Noro Silk Garden and Loden that I brought down here with me, in my luggage. The first is a beautiful mixture of purple, brown, lime green and electric purple, while Loden is a tweed yarn in the very same purple color of the one present in Noro. For this obvious reason, the Boreal’s motif of stars and trees didn’t stand out enough and, with much regret, I decided to undo everything and use this fabulous couple of colors for another project. I still think that changing the background color, I still could use Noro to create a gradient motif of a great visual effect, but you cannot break up perfect couples hence here I am knitting . . . Rotation!

Pantone lo ha scelto come colore dell’anno per il 2012 e quindi non dobbiamo che fidarci del guru mondiale delle tinte e iniziare a sferruzzare qualcosa in tono. L’arancione infatti fa capolino sia su passerelle che tra i prodotti per il makeup, sia tra l’arredamento per la casa che tra gli accessori, da capo a piedi. Grazie alla vivacità del rosso e al calore del giallo, l’arancione Tangerine Tango rende energetico e sensuale chi lo indossa, arricchendo il guardaroba con qualcosa di magnetico e allo stesso tempo sofisticato. E quindi perché non usarlo per il prossimo maglione o cardigan?

Pantone chose it as the 2012 color of the year and therefore we should trust the guru of colors and start knitting something in tone. Orange peeps out from catwalks and cosmetics, from home furnishings and accessories, from head to foot. Thanks to the vivaciousness of red and the warmth of yellow, Tangerine Tango orange gives sensual and energy to whoever wears it, enriching your wardrobe with something magnetic and sophisticated. So why do not use it for your next sweater or cardigan?

Camel Hair

Camel Hair è una delle ultime novità prodotte da Grignasco, talmente nuova che non c’è nemmeno sul sito della ditta ed è per questo che ho deciso di parlarvene un po’. 

Camel Hair un mix di 85% di lana vergine merino e 15% cammello, presentato in gomitoli da 50 gr e 100 m di filato. La fascetta suggerisce di lavorarlo con ferri da 5 mm, ma io ho preferito usare quelli da 4 mm per ottenere un lavoro più omogeneo e compatto. Anche la tensione è risultata essere piuttosto diversa: 19 m per 10 cm contro le 16 suggerite. La resa è tuttavia buona e con soli 8 gomitoli sono riuscita a fare un maglione taglia 40 con trecce e collo alto.

Il filo scorre perfettamente sui ferri, bisogna solo fare un po’ di attenzione a non infilare le punte tra i 3 capi che lo compongono e tutto fila liscio che è una meraviglia. Al tatto il gomitolo è sofficissimo e particolarmente morbido, così come il lavoro che se ne ottiene: è un vero piacere sferruzzarlo. 

Data la sua morbidezza, suggerisco l’uso di Camel Hair per svariati lavori: sia per accessori da portare a diretto contatto con la pelle come cappelli e sciarpe, sia per caldi maglioni e cardigan per l’inverno. E’ un filato abbastanza elastico e drappeggia bene, permettendo la realizzazione di capi soffici e abbastanza fluenti. Le trecce magari ne risentono un po’, ma vengono comunque bene, ed altri tipi di lavorazione, come per esempio il chicco di riso, risultano ben definiti.

Come al solito ho lavato il capo a mano in acqua leggermente tiepida e con poco sapone e devo dire che ha perso un po’ di colore, lasciando l’acqua scura (ma non so se è un problema che riguarda solo il nero, che ho usato, o anche gli altri colori).

Camel Hair mi è piaciuto molto e se volete provare qualcosa di diverso dai soliti 100% merino ve lo consiglio, anche perché il prezzo è davvero interessante: circa 4€ a gomitolo. Io l’ho acquistato presso Unfilodi.

Camel Hair is one of the latest products by Grignasco, so new that  is not even on the website of the company and that's why I decided to talk a bit  about it.

Camel Hair is a mix of 85% merino wool and 15% camel, presented in balls of 50 g and 100 m of yarn. The label suggest you to work it with 5 mm needles, but I preferred to use 4 mm ones to obtain a fabric more homogeneous and compact. Even the tension was quite different: 19 sts in 10 cm against the 16 suggested. However, the yield is pretty good and with just 8 balls I could make a turtle neck sweater, size 40, with cables.

The yarn runs perfectly on the needles, you just have to pay a little attention so you do not put the needles in between the 3 ply that make it and everything runs smoothly like a dream. The ball is very fluffy and soft to the touch, as well as the work that you obtain: it is a pleasure to knit with this yarn.

Because of its softness, I suggest the use of Camel Hair for every garments you want: for accessories to wear in direct contact with the skin such as hats and scarves, or for warm sweaters and cardigans to put on in winter. It is a quite elastic yarn and drapes well, allowing the creation of fairly soft and flowing garments. The cables might suffer a bit, but they still stand out good, and other types of motifs, such as a seed stitch, result pretty well-defined.

As usual, I washed the pullover by hand in warm and slightly soapy water and I must say that it has lost some color, leaving the water dark (but I do not know if it's a problem just with the black, that I used, or with other colors too).

 

I liked Camel Hair very much and if you want to try something different from the usual 100% Merino I recommend you to buy it and by the way the price is really interesting, about 4 € per skein. I bought it at Unfilodi.
