1, 2, 3...steek!

I finally finished my Little Birds, now I'm just waiting for a sunny day to wash and block it. In the meantime may I present you, step by step, my steeking.
First of all I secured the stitches of the steek in order to prevent unraveling once cut it open. I chose two rows of straight stitches done with the sewing machine, cleaner and faster method than the crochet one. I then cut the steek open with the scissors and finally I picked the stitches up for the edging. Once I've blocked the cardigan, I'm going to sew a grosgrain ribbon on the wrong side of the steeking to nicely hide it.
Let's hope this weather changes soon!

13

The 9th of march is my nephew Pietro's birthday. This year he turns 13... Time flies!
Anyway, as he really appreciate my knitting and he has even tried to knit himself, and as he doesn't wear hats because he's always warm and he prefers cowl, I decided to make one that I think he's going to like.
The pattern is, heavily modified, Kex Scarf by Stephen West and the yarn is the same I used for all my projects lately, Traveller by Cephalopos Yarns. These are all leftovers from other knits and I love the colors together...am I becoming a green person??
Anyway...happy birthday Pietro, I hope I can celebrate with you next year without needing to send you my wishes and gift via mail! xox

Jackie O Kennedy

Che avevo iniziato a cucire ve l'avevo detto, no?

I'm sure I've already told you that I begun sewing, right? I think my sewing passion is now close enough to my knitting one so I decided to publish my progresses.
For xmas my homonymous friend Carlotta gave a wonderful book: Famous Frocks, a guide to recreate the dresses of ten fashion icons, from Audrey's LBD to Marilyn's white alter.

So with a geometrical floral cotton drill - which reminds me the prints of the 20s and 60s - I decided to sew one the more classical dresses of the book: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' signature shift dress with funnel neck. I think it's one the simplest dresses I've sewn in my short career as seamstress. Even if the difficulty level is easy, the result is nonetheless exceptional and I'm sure I'll sew it again, maybe pairing it with a mini three quarter sleeves jacket and white gloves in perfect Jakie O style!

Please don't pay attention to my headless pics, but the photographer is at work!

Sneak Peek

Few days ago I finally put my hands on a couple of awesome skeins: Traveller by Cephalopod Yarns in Mauritius. For a long time I wished to see it on sale again and as soon as they put on line I bought it. As you may have understood, at the moment my creative vein throbs and beats for vivid and bright colors that I've never dared using before and Mauritius is just perfect! It is a blend of acid green, lemon and apple green that I love. For my first time with it I decided to dampen its glare pairing it with two grays, a darker - Bethlehem Royal Hospital - and a lighter one - Arkham.
The pattern I chose to knit is the sweet Little Birds by Ysolda Teague, published in Twist Collective winter 2008. However I decided to modify the cardigan a little as I wasn't convinced about its shape and I changed the motif as well in order to let the birds go in two different directions. I'm still at the beginning but I'm super excited about seeing it growing, stitch after stitch.
